Nature Hikes

Nature Hikes

General

Free, family- friendly nature hikes will be offered at Camp Mack through pop up events as they are on nature’s schedule. Please dress for the weather and be prepared to walk over uneven ground.

Spring Wildflower

Take in the sights and scents of the season as spring wildflowers and blooming shrubs bring Camp Mack’s wilderness area to life. This gentle, family-friendly walk invites participants to appreciate trillium, bloodroot, spring beauties, hepatica, and many other native plants as they emerge for their short but stunning spring display. Enjoy a relaxed pace, fresh air, and the chance to learn more about the natural world around you.

Prairie Walk

Join us for a summer walk through the 5 acres of prairie at Camp Mack. Blue stem grass, prairie dock, compass plant, indigo, rattlesnake master, and so many more can be found. See how our restoration efforts are doing in this section of the wilderness area and join in the fall for Prairie Restoration Work Day to continue these efforts.

Fall Nut & Tree Identification

Join us for a guided nature walk celebrating the colors, textures, and treasures of fall. This family-friendly event invites participants to explore the trails while learning to identify trees by their bark, branches, leaves, and nuts. Along the way, we’ll crack open and sample a few nuts if nature provides us the chance!
