Summer Staff Job Descriptions
As summer staff you'll serve as the hands and feet of Jesus at Camp Mack. You'll also meet awesome people and make friendships that will last a lifetime. Take a look at the positions below and see if there is anything that would suit you. If you have any questions, please let us know! We'd love to see you in the summer!
Summer Leadership Team
Ready to help lead the behind-the-scenes action at camp? The Summer Leadership Team keeps camp organized, prepared, and running smoothly all summer long. With three roles—Waterfront Coordinator, Challenge Course Coordinator, and Projects Coordinator—SLT members take on their own areas of responsibility while working closely together, and alongside the Program and Facilities Directors. From building schedules to coordinating supplies and supporting activities, SLT helps make sure camp is ready for every adventure!
Cabin Counselor
Ready to make a lasting impact this summer? Camp Counselors are the hands and feet of Jesus at camp, spending more time with campers than any other staff members. You’ll lead, encourage, and serve as a role model while sharing in the highs, challenges, and everyday adventures of camp life.
When you’re not serving in your cabin, you’ll work alongside the Program Team to help make camp an incredible experience for everyone!
Program/Lifeguard
Ready for a summer where every day is different? Our Lifeguard & Program Staff keep camp safe, active, and running smoothly! From keeping beaches clean and campers safe in the water to maintaining trails, running the challenge course, and supporting activities, this role is at the center of the camp experience. If you love variety, teamwork, and staying active, this could be the perfect role for you!
Photographer/Videographer
During summer camp, our campers leave their phones at home so they can fully connect with nature, their friends, and the camp experience. As our Photographer, you’ll capture the unforgettable moments they can’t capture themselves. From exciting adventures to everyday camp memories, you’ll help tell the story of their summer and give campers memories they can cherish for years to come. Another important part of the job is ordering group photos, and organizing the photos in a way they can be easily found in the future.
Kitchen Assistant
Many campers will tell you that their favourite part of camp is the food! As a Kitchen Assistant, you’ll do more than help get meals on the table—you’ll be an important part of creating a welcoming and positive kitchen environment. You’ll work alongside our kitchen team, interact with campers and staff, and help make mealtimes one of the highlights of every camper’s day.
Housekeeping Assistant
Camp Mack is home to many buildings, and keeping them clean and ready is no small job! Our Housekeeping Team makes sure camp stays fresh, welcoming, and sparkling clean. You’ll also help prepare spaces for our partner groups and play an important behind-the-scenes role in making camp a great place for everyone.
Summer Maintenance Assistant
Camp Mack has been welcoming guests for over 100 years—and keeping it looking its best takes a team effort! As a Maintenance Assistant, you’ll help care for our buildings and grounds, keeping them clean, safe, and welcoming for every guest. If you enjoy working with your hands and taking pride in a job well done, this is a great way to make a difference behind the scenes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where will I live during summer camp?
Summer staff (ages 18+) stay on-site in Wampler Lodge. This building has multiple (shared) bedrooms, a kitchen, laundry facilities, and a common room. Some staff will stay in cabin W-7.
Can I stay at home and commute?
Although for some positions it is possible to commute, we prefer our summer staff to stay on-site.
What does a typical day look like?
It is hard to predict what each day will look like, but a regular workday is from 8:30-5:00. Sometimes early morning activities and evening activities are scheduled as well.
Do I get time off?
Yes! Besides most evening off, we like to take off from Friday evening till Monday morning. Sometimes there are activities on the weekend, and if that happens, we’ll make sure you get time off some other time. When our camps are in session, we start on Sunday afternoon.
Can I request time off during the summer?
Yes! We understand life happens and your life doesn’t revolve around camp. During your interview we will ask you if you need time off during the summer. Please keep in mind that this could impact the hiring decision we are making.
Note: our busiest weeks are June 1-8 (staff training), July 4-9, and July 10-16.
How do I get paid?
We pay every other Tuesday. We prefer to pay with direct deposit, but if you are old-fashioned we can pay by check.
